Alleged Nexus 5 images show Android 4.4 KitKat interface changes

Nexus 5

New hardware and software shown in the latest round of Nexus leaks

There's a new batch of Nexus pictures floating around today, showing what's purported to be the Nexus 5 from LG complete with plenty of looks at Android 4.4 KitKat

The images, taken in Italy and displayed on the Tutto Android website, show us a look at the lock screen, the home screen, and a look at the apps of the Nexus 5. Of course, this leads to speculation of exactly what we're seeing, and things like a Tap to Pay mode in the settings and transparent status and navigation bars have a lot of folks excited.

Just as interesting is some testimony from the leaker themselves. The Nexus 5 is said to be fast and smooth, with KitKat being a "lighter" version of the OS that helps in the performance department. Dual stereo speakers are acknowledged in the bottom portion of the device, and the camera is said to provide excellent image stabilization.

Combined with the rumors of a reveal next week, things should start getting exciting right about now. The changes and new hardware look pretty interesting, and we're hoping for an official announcement soon. As things stand now, the only people that really know anything are the people not saying anything.

Hit the break to see the rest of the images, and check out the source link for their take on what they are seeing.

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan in talks to buy Fulham Football Club

JAMES CRICHLOW

Shahid Khan realized one of his life dreams when he bought the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now he is reportedly in talks to buy a soccer club in London and realize another lifelong dream.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is reportedly in talks to buy another football team, but this team uses a different kind of ball.

The Daily Mail, a London newspaper, is reporting Khan is in advanced negotiations to buy the Fulham Football Club, an English Premier League team based in London.

The purchase price would be around $200 million and the Daily Mail reports an announcement is due by Friday.

If Khan does buy the team, it would be the latest in London ventures for the Jaguars head man. The team is set to play four games over the next four years in London and it has made several moves to maneuver itself to take advantage of playing across the pond, including hiring a director of UK partnerships.

Ancient predator lacked jaw strength to leverage own fangs, was 'embarrassing'

The extinct and highly unusual predator?Thylacosmilus atrox relied on brute brawn to pin its prey.

?All the better to eat you up with,? replied the wolf, which had just gobbled up the girl?s relative and strategically donned some of her accessories.

Well, not necessarily. It turns out that big teeth don't always mean a big bite, especially if the animal lacks the strong jaws to wield them.

The hulking, toothy predators that roamed the earth millions of years ago have long been figures of lore for sinking their horrible teeth into the animals unlucky enough to keep company with them. One of the animals in the sabre-tooth lineage, a South American version called Thylacosmilus atrox, had two massive teeth, each with roots stretching back to its braincase and that protruded from its mouth like angry warnings to run away, fast. The catch is, this extinct animal, a species whose closest living relatives are the Australian and American marsupials, had a bite no more powerful than that of a modern domestic cat.

Scientists have found that the worryingly toothy animal actually lacked the sheer jaw power to leverage its own teeth. Instead, the ancient mammal had to rely on its brawn to snag its food, pinning its prey with its muscled arms before administering a precise, strategic bite that depended entirely on its neck muscle force.?

?Thylacosmilus looked and behaved like nothing alive today,? said University of New South Wales?palaeontologist Stephen Wroe, the leader of the research team. ?Frankly, the jaw muscles of?Thylacosmilus?were embarrassing."

To make those findings, published in PLOS ONE, scientists built three-dimensional computer models that played out how three feared animals chased and killed their prey: Thylacosmilus, its cousin, the classic North American sabre-toothed ?tiger? (Smilodon fatalis), and the modern leopard.

The models showed that that both of the extinct species had extremely weak jaws relative to the modern leopard, with those of the odd Thylacosmilus being the weakest. That means that Smilodon fatalis, a true member of the cat family, was similarly dependent on sheer brawn, rather than wickedly punishing jaws, to kill its food.

Lest it be too much of an embarrassment to legend, where Thylacosmilus did have an advantage was in its skull, which was uniquely adapted to absorb the stress of plunging its fangs into hapless animals.

?Grandmother, what a big neck and well-adapted skull you have,? said Thylacosmilus?s prey, allegedly.

PFT: Did RGIII take veiled shot at Shanahan?

Divisional Playoffs - Seattle Seahawks v Atlanta FalconsGetty Images

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin doesn?t have much faith in the read-zone option being anything more than another passing fad.

Tomlin called the offensive scheme the ?flavor of the month? in the league and feels its success could very much go the way of the Wildcat once defenses have a chance to adjust and figure it out.

?We look forward to stopping it,? Tomlin said. ?We look forward to eliminating it.?

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is one of a handful of quarterbacks to have been able to incorporate the read-zone concepts and see success. San Francisco?s Colin Kaepernick, Washington?s Robert Griffin III and Carolina?s Cam Newton have also benefited from adding the elements to their offenses.

But Wilson has no intention of just being the ?flavor of the month.? He believes that he, Kaepernick and other quarterbacks that can run are getting unfairly put into a box as ?running quarterbacks? just because they have the ability to run and not being given the credit for their ability to throw the ball or run an offense.

?It doesn?t matter what style of offense, I?m ready to play any time, anywhere, anyplace. I just want to play football. Some people try to take away from our ability to throw the football because we can run. But I think it just adds another dimension to what we do,? Wilson said, via Eric Williams of the?Tacoma News Tribune.

?To be honest with you, people try to take away from the ability that guys have in terms of what Colin Kaepernick and other guys like him can do, for whatever reason, because they?re young, or they?re different,? Wilson added. ?But I think it brings excitement to the game. It brings a challenge to the defense.?

Seattle doesn?t solely rely on the read-zone instead using it only as a complement to their normal offense. Wilson matched Peyton Manning?s record for most touchdown passes by a rookie with 26 last year and had a 20-0 touchdown to interception ratio in the opponent?s red zone. That level of success can?t solely be written off as a byproduct of one offensive scheme alone.

Wilson, Kaepernick and Griffin all proved last season they have the ability to successfully work a passing game in addition to their ability to run when called upon. The thought they will be rendered ineffective by adjustments defenses make to solve the read-zone elements of their offenses seem to be far-fetched.
