This position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment reporting to the Executive Director for Residence Life and University Housing. As a key senior member of the departmental staff, the position participates in all departmental policy, planning, and budgeting discussions, seeking synergistic opportunities through collaborative efforts. In addition, this position leads and manages all service and educational operations in University residence halls and apartments for the purpose of providing a collection of caring, inclusive communities in which learning, maturing and developing are at the forefront of students? daily lives. The Senior Director provides leadership and strategic vision to the entire organization.
Areas of responsibility include the development and management of a large number of initiatives supporting student learning and academic success, including a variety of residential learning communities and educational initiatives on diversity and social justice, sustainability, leadership, and behavior. The position manages a large, complex student conduct system, hall operations (front desk operations, key management and security, mail delivery and entrance security), and emergency response. In addition, the position provides oversight for a large, complex organization and serves in the absence of the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate as the senior member of the Executive Director?s leadership team to develop and execute a Residence Life strategic vision. Collaborate to create departmental goals consonant with this strategic vision, translating them into specific objectives for the department. Communicate these goals to Residential Education staff with a sense of importance and urgency. Oversee and help staff realize these goals.
- Collaborate and integrate Residential Education needs, priorities and goals with those of the other Residence Life departments.
- Create and implement a hallmark residential experience for all students that serve as a pillar for their University of Arizona experience.
- Lead the development and implementation of initiatives to foster student development (e.g., behavioral education), community development (e.g., living learning communities), and student learning and success (e.g., collaborative academic initiatives).
- Coordinate with a large number of constituents across campus, throughout our region and nationally to craft strategic partnerships for these purposes.
- Identify and build key relationships to support the University of Arizona?s recruitment and retention goals.
- Build and lead a culture driven by knowledge gleaned from ongoing programmatic assessment.
- Oversee a student conduct system, working collaboratively with the Dean of Students office on student conduct issues.
- Provide direct supervision for one Director of Residential Education and strong indirect supervision for one Associate Director, five Assistant Directors, and Program Coordinators.
- Provide oversight supervision for all hall operations, including front desk operations, mail delivery, key management and security, and building entrance security.
- Support the Executive Director in the overall supervision of the department.
- Develop and oversee the execution of a vision for the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of a staff of several hundred, including over twenty Community Directors, about 230 Resident Assistants, over 200 Desk Assistants, and several clerical staff working in support of all the above.

- Participate in campus and departmental emergency preparedness and response.
- Represent the Executive Director with a wide variety of constituencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master?s Degree in higher education or an equivalent field.
- Commitment to a student-centered educational mission, particularly the University of Arizona?s Land Grant mission.
- Ability to energetically lead a talented professional and paraprofessional staff with a shared passion for students and vision for the future, while collaborating creatively with a wide variety of individuals and groups to solve problems, achieve desired goals, and create new opportunities.
- Twelve years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a position that involves thinking strategically and organizing and managing residential and educational operations in a large, complex university housing department.
- Knowledge of personnel management, including selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating a culturally and physically diverse professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including writing, public speaking and presenting, teaching, and responding to customer needs.
- Familiarity with different assessment methodologies and application of the resulting outcomes.
- Track record of continual improvement and use of data as a strong rubric for decision- making.
- Valid Arizona Driver?s License upon employment.
